Calcite

Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral with a hardness of 3. Calcites make up the major part of most limestone and marble. It is found on every continent, however the brightest varieties are from Mexico. One famous source of calcite is in Hattsub, Egypt, where white or yellow calcite was quarried and referred to as alabaster. In fact, the sphinx in Egypt dating back to the 18-19th dynasty was carved from calcite. It is available in blue, green, orange, pink, white and clear.
