Picture Jasper

Picture jasper is a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. It can be found in eastern Oregon and western Idaho. It displays wonderful landscape scenes often appearing like a painting. These undulating lines of color are caused by iron, clay, goethite and even decaying microscopic organisms! Sometimes interesting black fern-like patterns appear as trees or landscapes; this is caused by magnesium seeping into the jasper during formation.

Picture Jasper is good for connection with the earth, inner journeying, seeing the ancient past, or awareness when traveling.
