Quartz with Chlorite

Quartz with Chlorite is a type of included quartz composed of two minerals (quartz and chlorite- a magnesium iron aluminum silicate). These minerals formed together during favorable conditions then separated at a critical point in time when temperature and pressure became unstable. The minerals then tried to convert to a more stable chemistry resulting in separation. This sometimes leads to the undesirable mineral being forced out. Phantoms are also sometimes visible. This means that a coating of chlorite formed on the quartz crystal early in its development. The crystal later grew larger- out and around the chlorite coating. The effect is a “ghostly” crystal that looks like it has smaller crystals inside it. The chlorite generally is green however it may appear bright lavender or deep crimson due to increased chromium content. Usually quartz with chlorite is found in Brazil and Madagascar. It has a hardness of 7. Metaphysical properties: association with Earth and nature.
