Topaz

Topaz is an aluminum silicate fluoride hydroxide with a hardness of 8. It occurs in a variety of colors including white, gray, green, blue, pink, or reddish-yellow. The name topaz derives from the Greek topazos referring to the name of an island in the Red Sea where the stone was believed to be found. Today topaz can be found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Russia, Burma, Australia, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Africa and the USA. A recent trend in jewelry is the manufacture of topaz specimens that display iridescent colors by applying a thin layer of Titanium Dioxide via physical vapor deposition and sold as ‘mystic topaz’.

Yellow topaz is the birthstone for November.

Topaz is known as a stone of "true love and success in all endeavors". It can promote individuality and creativity providing for confidence in trusting ones decisions as it cuts through the curtains of uncertainty and trepidation.
